Launch event

On 9th July 20 local people met at the Hope Centre in the Christ Church building, Buckingham Road, Tuebrook for the launch of our project, 100 Pictures-100 Pages.  Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, we at North End Writers are inviting anyone with something to say about the First World War to send us a piece of writing – up to 400 words – along with the picture that inspired it.

The picture can be an old family photo, an image of a local building, a drawing or painting, or something found in a book or magazine – anything that strikes a personal chord. The writing can take any form – fiction, a story told by a relative living at the time of the war, a poem, or a reflection on the way the war has affected life today.

You can send in your picture and your writing any time until December 1st, either by e-mail (northendwriters@gmail.com ) or post (address below).

A number of writing workshops are taking place over the coming months, to help anyone who is unsure about where to begin, or how to go about producing something. The next one is on Wed 23rd July starting at 6.30 pm at the Hope Centre hall, Christ Church on Buckingham Road, Tuebrook.

Submissions will be put onto the website as they come in to form a lasting archive. In December, 100 will be selected showing the widest range of associations to the war, and the best writing about it. Some of these will also be used for exhibitions around Merseyside.

It is hoped that the project will help to connect Liverpool people with their own links to World War 1, as well as to promote the pleasure and satisfaction of writing.
